Set Up Auto-Updating Wallpapers

Your Android phone will automatically download and set a fresh LifeGrid wallpaper every morning.

Choose Your Automation App

Android offers several apps for automation. We recommend:

MacroDroid (Recommended)

Free, user-friendly, and perfect for this use case. Available on Google Play Store.

Tasker

More powerful but costs ~$3.49. Great if you already own it.

MacroDroid Setup

Install MacroDroid

Download MacroDroid from the Google Play Store.

Open the app and grant the required permissions when prompted.

Create Your Wallpaper & Get URL

Go to LifeGrid Create and configure your wallpaper.

Click the "Automate" button and copy your unique wallpaper URL.

Example: https://lifegrid.app/api/wallpaper?token=abc123xyz

Create New Macro

  1. Open MacroDroid and tap "Add Macro"
  2. Give it a name like "LifeGrid Wallpaper"

Set Trigger (Time of Day)

  1. Tap "Triggers"
  2. Select "Day/Time" → "Time Trigger"
  3. Set your preferred time (e.g., 6:00 AM)
  4. Select "Days of the Week" → check all days
  5. Tap "OK"

Add Action: Download File

  1. Tap "Actions"
  2. Select "Files" → "Download File"
  3. Paste your LifeGrid URL in the "URL" field
  4. Set "Save Location" to any folder (e.g., Downloads)
  5. Set "Filename" to lifegrid.png
  6. Enable "Overwrite existing file"
  7. Tap "OK"

Add Action: Set Wallpaper

  1. Tap "+" to add another action
  2. Select "Device Settings" → "Set Wallpaper"
  3. Choose "From File"
  4. Navigate to where you saved lifegrid.png
  5. Select "Lock Screen", "Home Screen", or "Both"
  6. Tap "OK"

Save & Test

  1. Tap the checkmark to save the macro
  2. Tap "Test" or run the macro manually
  3. Check your wallpaper - it should update!

🎉 Done! Your wallpaper will now update automatically every morning.

Tasker Alternative (Advanced)

If you prefer Tasker, here's the quick setup:

  1. Create a new Profile with Time trigger (your preferred time, daily)
  2. Create a Task with these actions:
    • HTTP Request: GET your LifeGrid URL, save to file
    • Set Wallpaper: Use the downloaded image
  3. Link the Profile to the Task and enable

Troubleshooting

Macro doesn't run?

Ensure MacroDroid has battery optimization disabled: Settings → Apps → MacroDroid → Battery → Unrestricted.

Wallpaper doesn't set?

Some phones require additional permissions. Check MacroDroid's System Settings section for "Modify System Settings" permission.

Download fails?

Ensure your phone has internet access and the URL is correct. Try opening the URL in a browser first.
